Oh look for the red squirrels around the shower block. There are so many beautiful villages and towns in the area so take an extra memory card for the camera. What did throw us was the entry to the site but it is narrow but easily navigable, just trust the site directions and follow the arrow. You have to walk up river and take in the amazing houses and see the large trout everywhere. The village is a short walk and The Voyager did excellent food and again friendly. The reception was friendly and staff always very helpful, our only mistake was leaving a day early (Lol) as we got our days and dates wrong. The shower block was always clean and positioned in the centre of the site. The riverside pitches that we and our friends booked were beautiful, it all made for a chill out holiday and you'll love the ducklings who pay regular visits throughout the day. We have just returned after spending an excellent week at the end of June. Personally we though some of the previous remarks slightly over the top but I suppose that is a matter of opinion. It is a site for young families and they tend to be Dutch, so there were plenty of screeching toddlers, but then we were in just about the worst pitch for a pre pitched tent (we booked late) As seasoned campers, usually in our own tent, I would be more than happy to return to this site. the site itself is woodland and feels secluded, and you have the river right at your feet. Situated on a little island in the Dordogne, it is only a couple of minutes walk into the beautiful town of Beaulieu, where you can go to the Boulangerie, the tourist office or have a delicious ice-cream. the bar was fine, and the pizzas and frites great! The major selling point of this campsite though, is the location. the customer service was good, even better if you speak some french. The tent was new and impeccably clean, as were the toilet blocks. I think this may be because the campsite has become part of the Indigo group, but I can assure you, there is now plenty of loo roll! and thought it was wonderful! Any problems that have been mentioned in previous years are no longer the case. We've just returned from a week long stay in a pre pitched wood and canvas tent. Okay it's not Centre Parcs but it has 3 great slides, bouncy castles, trampolines, a snack/coffee bar and isn't overrun by people. If you have kids with you and would like to visit a water park I can't recommend Parc de loisirs la Saule more highly enough. The proprieter certainly knows his stuff. There is a fantastic real ale beer and wine shop in the town. We also visited Martel to go on the railway. The Padriac caves are definitely worth as visit. I only had to queue once for a shower for about 5 minutes and that was in August! There is so much to see and do in the area. Some of the reviews mentioned the ablutions but these must've been improved as we found them looking really new and clean. Just a short walk away is another pool with a big slide and the beautiful river where there is an area cordoned off for paddling. There is a lovely pool and a great playground for the children. It is a short walk from a very pretty little village.
You would be hard pressed to beat the picturesque setting. We've just returned from a week's stay at this beautiful campsite. My advice if you have an English caravan as they are generally longer than others make sure you don't get pitch 67. Tennis courts free to use out the back of the campsite and over the bridge. The village of Beaulieu was beautiful, lovely meals in the square, the right hand side of the square has the nicer choice of food.
Some pitches were huge and only had a small tent on them, not at all impressed for the price. Our caravan and awning was smothered in bird excrement considering we have camped for years we have never experienced such a poor pitch. The pitch number 67 had big trees over it fabulous for shade but every night many birds at 21:50 roosted every night we had to move our car as it was covered in excrement after the first night. Our pitch was tiny just enough room for an English caravan and awning and a tiny area to put table and chairs not at all ideal as brambles were all along the back of the pitch. First problem on arrival we had put in the comment section to have two pitches next to each other as we travelling with friends, this hadn't been received and we were informed that we should have paid extra for requesting two pitches next to each other.
